Encompass Early Education and Care, Inc. employs over 200 people with the great majority working in our 7 child care centers. The Related Link, Teacher Qualifications, describes the education and experience child care workers in the state of Wisconsin need to have to work with children. The upper levels in the graduated education scale are what Encompass encourages its staff to pursue. Encompass pays for related education and training of its staff.
Encompass seeks special people to work with children. Two adopted philosophies describe the kind of people the agency is looking for. Related Links to its Recruitment Philosophy, Career Advancement Philosophy and Values will paint a picture of the staff that work at the agency.
Encompass has adopted the High Scope Curriculum, which is an international curriculum and research based. Teachers are trained in this curriculum that is developmentally appropriate for the age of the child. The Related Link, High/Scope, will give you a basic understanding of how staff work with children.
Emerging literacy is a focus of the agency, and staff is trained in the best practices to facilitate this developmental process. We know that learning to read and write begins at birth and builds on a child's basic need to communicate. We know children learn to read and write at different rates and in different ways. Children acquire literacy through key experiences in speaking, listening, reading and writing. They learn to read and write because they enjoy it and want to model what adults do. In addition to a number of "literacy" initiatives, Encompass believes in immersing children in the best of children's literature. To learn more, click on the Related Link, Literacy.
Teachers at Encompass are trained to become acute observers of children. Progress in growth and development are monitored through the "Child Observation Record". This is a computer-based assessment report that is a companion to the High/Scope curriculum.
In addition to the teaching staff, Encompass has 25 Foster Grandparents who give added attention to children, especially those children who may have special needs. These senior citizens are considered volunteers and commit to approximately 15-40 hours each week. To learn more about this program, click on the Related Link, Foster Grandparents.
